How SREC pricing works

SRECs can be valued in the spot market between $0.00 and the NJ SREC market annual SACP (the default utility penalty) less market transactional and contracting fees. Prices are pegged to the current Reporting-Year SRECs.

The SACP (Solar Alternative Compliance Payment) is the legislated ceiling that utilities pay if they fall short of their solar obligation. It effectively caps the value of an SREC for a given energy year — for example, the NJ legislated SACP for Energy Year 2024 was $218.00.

Energy Year, not calendar year

When determining REC prices you must use the Energy Year, which runs June to May. Reporting-Year SRECs are tagged by their eligible months of generation (for example, Energy Year 2024 SRECs are tagged 06/2023 through 05/2024).

Class 1 RECs

We also buy NJ Class 1 RECs on the spot market with no fees and no commissions. See Class 1 REC for details.

The SREC / Class 1 REC market can be volatile and can decline or rise significantly in response to industry, market, economic, regulatory, or political developments. Past bid prices are not indicators of future prices. Our posted web price is the price we will pay you for spot-market RECs; no fee or commission is deducted from the payment.
